The Electric Sheep Screen-Saver

Electric sheep
the electric sheep screen-saver

This is an interesting Open Source app.

When these computers “sleep”, the screen saver comes on and the computers communicate with each other by the internet to share the work of creating morphing abstract animations known as “sheep”. The result is a collective “android dream”, an homage to Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep

I’m going to go to BlizzCon

Well I guess I’m building up quite a record for attending these game gatherings.

I’ve been to basically the first EverQuest fan gathering in which EQ employees attended (they even bought subway sandwiches). I’ve been to the first Vanguard gathering. And I’ll be at the first WoW gathering. I was invited to the first DAoC gig but it was the same weekend as my sister’s graduation. I’m looking forward to attending to see how it goes and to spend time with friends. I’m also happy it’s within driving distance from my sister’s place so I won’t have to fly nor stay in an expensive hotel.

Oberto Beef Jerky Crisps

Beef Jerky Chips
“Oven Roasted” “Crispy Crunchy”

So they were giving these out at my gym. Yes, the gym.

Before you read on, you should know a few things about me. 1. I tend to have more of a “salt tooth” rather than a “sweet tooth” and 2. I love pepperoni pizza when the pepperoni is slightly crisp.

Alright then, here’s my verdict: I like these things!

I’m sure they’re not good for me. In fact, I was afraid to read the packaging. Once you get past the “High in Protein” and “Oven Roasted” tags, one notices that it says things like “Smoke Flavor and Wheat Gluten Added”. Sodium is also high at 135mg for this sample sized package of 7g.

The “high protein” claim seems alright, it’s followed by claiming 13 grams per 30g serving which I’m assuming is the normal size serving out of the non sample size packages. The sample package is only 7g though. In the 7g I do apparently get 2% of my daily recommended value of iron.

Well anyway, numbers aside, what about the taste? The taste is salty and sweet. It’s crispy, not as crisp as a chip, but it definitely has a crunch. There is also a slightly sweet taste to it which unfortunately reminds me of artificial flavoring. This package was the “Original” flavor.

Alright, I can’t help it, I’m reading the ingredients list… “Beef, brown sugar, corn syrup solids, dextrose, wheat gluten, salt, hydrolyzed corn and soy protein, natural and artificial flavorings…” It goes on much longer than that.

Well this little snack is going to have to go on my guilty pleasure list.

Blizzard Folks Bail to Form New Company

So we had some folks leave before World of Warcraft made it big and now we’ve got 3 folks leaving now to form a new company called Red5.

I think I’ll try to attend BlizzCon and see the state of the game. I suspect everything will be just fine.

Hurricane Katrina

I haven’t written much in here lately. It’s because the magnatude of Hurricane Katrina sunk in. It’s made me depressed and angry in turns. I’ve had to moderate political arguments about it and that always drains me.

For my part, I was lucky enough to visit New Orleans last year. It was mainly a business trip but I still got to go around and got shown some places by some folks who were living there (they moved out a few months ago). I saw the pictures on TV and the internet and I thought to myself, I walked there. I remember all the poor homes I saw. They were poor then, what will they be now?

I donated to the Red Cross and I’m trying to think of a design to give to the Cafepress section in which they will donate their share to an organization as well. But I can’t seem to do it.

I’ve been staying busy with my stores, working away diligently partly as an escape from the news and the political squabblings. My thoughts have never left that area though. It’s heartbreaking to see what folks are going through and then to see people’s ignorant comments about the situation. I hate ignorance. I hate that there is current in some places that seems to be proud of being ignorant and to put down education. That almost depresses me as much as the devastation.

At any rate, I most likely won’t be posting about this again, but it won’t be because it’s not on my mind but because I’ll be in “defensive busy mode” to compensate for the depression.

Getting Things Done, OmniOutliner, and syncing to paper at Litwack.org

Getting Things Done, OmniOutliner, and syncing to paper at Litwack.org

I was just thinking of how I’ve been lax with my GTD system lately and this article came up on 43 Folders.

I don’t think I’ll be implementing it but it was worth a read and it helps to read others successes to keep you going yourself.

I cleared my inbox today though, this is a good thing.
